Alan Keys is the lay member for patient and public engagement on the Governing Body.
After a career in insurance Alan has been a patient representative since 2004, completing 3 years in the Chair of the East Sussex local Involvement Network in 2013. He has also chaired the patient group and Board of the Sussex Heart Network. He previously served as a specialist hospital inspector for the Care Quality Commission.
He is President of the Cardiovascular Care Partnership (UK), a Council Member of the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) and on the Clinical Standards Committees of BCS and the British Cardiovascular Interventionists’ Society. He is a Board member of the National Cardiovascular Information Network, a patient representative for National Cardiovascular Outcomes Research and on the Domain Expert Group for Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project (MINAP). He also works with the British Heart Foundation and University College Hospital London on a variety of ad hoc patient issues.
He wants to see clinicians and patients working together to improve outcomes for patients, improve efficiency and for patients to play a more active role in managing their own health.
